Troy and Dottie Eyler
Sergent Stable’s new location, formally known as Andray Farm has been developed and managed by Troy and Dottie Eyler for over 20 years. They are both Ohio State University Alumni with Breeding Management degrees. They live on the farm with their two daughters Brittany and Brooke. Sergent Stables will continue to strive for excellence in breeding commercially in the standardbred industry. The farm is now expanding to other breeds. The management of Troy and Dottie also versed in the Thoroughbred Industry. Equine breeding at the farm is mostly artificial insemination breeding of cooled semen. Likely ways of semen transport of shipment is by airplane, UPS or direct pick up. Management works closely with Allegheny Equine Veterinary Services, in Export PA.
MARE CARE
Mare care is the most important investment that each horse owner seeks out. Under management as a breeding farm we handle communication to the Stallion owner and mare owner. Our mare care also includes feeding twice daily. Health care of the mare is overlooked by Troy or Dottie on a daily basis. All horses are on a strict vaccination and deworming schedule. Farrier service is every 8-10 weeks for the mares, foals, yearlings and turned out horses.
FOAL CARE
Foals are closely watched for any health issues that may arise. The foals are handled daily. While the foals are in the barn and the mare is under veterinarian care to be bred back; the foals are taught to stand patiently and be haltered and lead to stalls and paddocks.
YEARLING PREPARATION
YEARLING TURNOUT
Preparation of yearlings offered at Sergent Stables after horses are entered in their assigned choice of sale. Standardbred yearlings are sold at Kentucky and Harrisburg primarily, other sales include Ohio Select and Canada. Yearling prep includes handling daily to and from paddocks, grooming and training of cross ties, daily overseeing of proper exercise and nutrition. Our horses are the best well-mannered horses at sales. Trainers are very happy for the time and effort put into the simple ground handling.
Turnout begins when the foal is weaned. They are turned out with the same sex and age on 40 plus rolling acres. The yearlings are personally fed and overlooked by management. These are the crucial months in development. They are fed twice daily. Horses are fed in a group in a stress free environment to grow and develop.
RACEHORSE TURNOUT
Turnout is always managed to fit the needs of the horse. Racehorses do come here for rest and relaxation. After a long breeding season Sergent Stables is open to racehorses from the track. Some of the horses that come to us are needing rehabilitation from surgery, muscle trauma or just need a good long break. As professionals we strive to meet the trainers and owners needs/wishes, plus following veterinarian instructions and any follow up care. Large safe paddocks are provided for turnout as long as the horses wish. We are very aware that racehorses have a slow transition to just being a horse again. Turnouts are stress free and we will give them an early morning turnout plus a late cool summer evening turnout.
